A dental implant is a titanium tooth root that is inserted into the jawbone to which an artificial tooth is attached. Depending upon the number of missing teeth, it can be single or multiple.
In the case of all on 4 dental implants, as the name suggests, four dental implants are inserted into the bone to give a firm pillar-like solid foundation.
It is now the most popular and predictable option for those who require full mouth implants on either the upper or lower jaw after losing all teeth.
The placement of tooth implants is a simple and advanced implant procedure. It does not require additional bone grafting surgery and still provides fixed total teeth replacement.
For successful implant placement, jaw bone must have sufficient quality and quantity. So examination with 3D imaging is done to evaluate the bone density properly.
After proper analysis of the bone and the structures, the regions where implants can be successfully inserted are marked out with the help of special software.
Four implants are placed into the jawbone. The implants are placed at an angle or in areas with a thicker layer of bone. Over these implants, a row of teeth placed on a plastic base is attached to create natural teeth like effect. The pressure from the teeth spreads and distributes across the four implants after connecting with the bone, providing stability.
These fixed teeth are placed in a patient who has lost all teeth or failing teeth and needs complete teeth replacement.
The fixation of dental implants in the bone is dependent on bone quality and quantity. So, having sufficient bone thickness for implant placement is essential.
Conventional removable dentures can be frustrating sometimes, as they need to be cleaned every morning and tend to get loose; in that case, all on 4 dental implants are the best procedure to avoid any hassle as they feel almost like natural teeth and are fixed in the mouth.
