A dental implant is a tooth root-like (titanium) structure that is inserted into the jawbone to which an artificial tooth is attached. It is a popular tooth replacement option after tooth removal or natural tooth loss.
It is easy to care for, is long-lasting, looks and feels natural.
Any candidate going for a dental implant should have sufficient bone quality and quantity so that the implant stays in place.
Controlled diabetics, patients with controlled hypertension are also good candidates for dental implants post medical evaluation.
To place an implant, it is important to know about the anatomy of the jawbone; that is why the process starts with diagnosis and planning to increase the chances of a successful outcome. It involves using a Cone-beam or CBCT 3-D imaging (diagnostic procedures) to examine all anatomical structures, including nerves, arteries, bones, and muscles, based on which the complete procedure is designed.
Next, the artificial root, composed of titanium, is then inserted in place of the lost tooth. The jawbone develops around the artificial root at the time of healing, firmly holding it in place. The recovery time ranges from six to twelve weeks.
After the implant has been firmly fixed in the jawbone, the new tooth is attached to it with the help of a connector.
The replacement teeth look, feel, and operate much like the original teeth since the implant is fixed within the jawbone.
